Marathon de la liberté

Every year, the Freedom Marathon race makes a date with history. This event, created in tribute to the liberation of the city by the Allied forces, brings together 27,000 runners to compete. So, why not you?

What you will find there:

• A legendary race organized since 1988;

• Not one, not two, but 8 distances (from 1.5 km to 42.195 km) plus a relay option for the marathon;

• Pacemakers to set the tempo for you;

• Shuttles to reach the start, and a recovery area with masseurs and physiotherapists for your great pleasure.

Focus on the course:

The marathon highlights the key sites of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy. Starting near the beaches of Juno and Sword Beach, the race heads inland to reach the city of Caen along a route dotted with monuments and commemorative steles.

The half marathon starts in front of the Pegasus Bridge, the first bridge liberated by the Allied soldiers. From there, the course follows that of the marathon for a fanfare finish in the city center of Caen.

The 10 km is 100% urban to discover the “city of a hundred bell towers”. Don’t forget to watch the road so you don’t hurt your ankle, we’re telling you that…

The cherry on the top of the refreshment stand: the Rochambelle, a race-walk to benefit the fight against breast cancer, and the Foulées de la liberté, the youth race.
