The Trail des Lumières is Villers-lès-Nancy switching into headlamp mode. An end of day that slowly slides into night, back-to-back starts, runners arriving with their lamp, their cup, their more or less ready legs… and that pleasant little tension you feel before a night trail.

The event keeps a very readable format: several distances, a walking or timed version on the 7 km Octobre Rose, a Backyard 42 for those who love repeating the effort, and kids' races to keep the evening alive as a family. All with a genuine solidarity dimension: the 7 km supports the Ligue contre le cancer, the kids' races support SOS Villages d'Enfants de Jarville.

Here, you don't just come to tick off a distance. You come to run at night, to find the atmosphere of a local trail that brings people together, and to see the paths around Villers-lès-Nancy take on a different face once the light has faded.

Course focus

The Trail des Lumières offers several ways to enter the night. The 7 km Octobre Rose can be run or walked on a short but technical course, with a timed version for runners and a more accessible version for those who mainly want to take part. The 14 km adds a real trail notch: night start, fireworks, more prominent elevation and sections to manage by headlamp.

The 20 km and 27 km formats are aimed at regular runners, with technical night courses, elevation gain, aid stations along the way and markings designed to catch the light of headlamps. It's not there to frighten anyone, but it does require staying alert: at night, every footstep counts a little more.

And then there's the Backyard 42: 6 loops of 7 km, a maximum of one hour per loop, a start every hour. You run, you come back, you recover, you set off again. Simple to understand, much less simple to manage when the laps pile up.

3 (very) good reasons to take part

  • Discover night trail running without going to extremes: from 7 km to 27 km, everyone can choose their level of commitment, headlamp strapped to their head.
  • Try a different format with the Backyard 42: 6 loops, 6 starts, a real test of effort management, rest and mental strength.
  • Take part in an evening that means something: Octobre Rose, solidarity kids' races, local atmosphere, on-site catering, a brewer, volunteers and photos offered after the event.
